University of Melbourne Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (abbreviated to GSHSS) is a part of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.
The School is located in the heritage listed Old Arts Building, constructed in 1919–1924 and is situated in the oldest precinct on the university campus.〔http://www.walkingmelbourne.com/buildin http://www.walkingmelbourne.com/building244_old-arts-building-melbourne-university.htmlg244_old-arts-building-melbourne-university.html〕 The School’s facilities were refurbished in early 2010, the building's first major construction project in 50 years.
In Times Higher Education world rankings, the University of Melbourne is ranked 19 in the Social Sciences〔http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/Rankings2009-Top50-SocialSci.html〕 and 17 in the Arts and Humanities.〔http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/Rankings2009-Top50-Humanities.html〕
The School now administers 16 Masters by coursework programs in the humanities and social sciences disciplines.

The School’s flagship program, the Executive Master of Arts, became available to students in 2010. It is the first program of its kind in Australia, and aims to foster ethical leadership and social engagement by bringing together traditional arts disciplines such as philosophy, literary studies and politics with strategic knowledge in fields such as planning and finance. The program works in close partnership with industry bodies, and was developed in consultation with industry partners.〔http://www.arts.unimelb.edu.au/graduate/ema/industry-links.html〕 Several of these partners offer internships to EMA students. They include (Australian Football League Players' Association ), the (ANZ Bank ) and (Essential Media Communications ).
